Vikarabad: Continuous elections have turned hurdles to development works in the district as the development works have come to a standstill since Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao dissolved the state assembly. Now, with the release of GP elections notification, development works are again being deferred. The Election Code will remain in force for one month.

It is learned that a few works are in tender stage, while the others have given administrative permissions. According to sources, after GP and cooperative society elections, Lok Sabha and Municipal elections will be conducted. Not only that, the state government is planning to conduct MPTC and ZPTC elections. No new beneficiaries for welfare schemes will be selected during the code time, but works which were taken up earlier would not get affected.

The election code will remain active across the district in panchayats and municipalities till January 30. It is known that the polls will be conducted in three phases. The code remained active for three months during the recent assembly elections. The government should desist from announcing new schemes during the time, as per the code. No people’s representative is allowed to use government or government-aided organisation vehicles for campaigning. All meetings will be considered as elections meeting after the code comes into force. Action will be taken against people who violate the code.
