Hyderabad: It is not often that you hear someone auction a cake to raise funds, but that is exactly what Rana Siddiqui, 21, a pharma student decided to do. “Buy a cake, make a difference.” @thecakesmith_hyd auctioned a 1.5 kg Naked Chocolate Cake on Sunday to raise funds for Humanity First Foundation.

Rana, a student from Sultan-Ul-Uloom College of Pharmacy, said, “This is a creative way to propagate the message of charity.” She added, “Last time my friend Alisha Akheel auctioned two cakes. One was sold for Rs 4,000 and the other for Rs 8,500. The money was donated to Securing Smiles Foundation and an orphanage at Falaknuma respectively, both the times.”
Rana loves to bake and takes out time to follow her passion.

This time the bid price is Rs 1,200. The auction ended at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. The cake was bought by Syed Irfan for Rs 3,100. The bidding started at 11 am when the first bidder placed a price of Rs 2000.

The cake a four layered moist chocolate cake filled with chocolate ganache and choco-chips, frosted with sweetened whipped cream is a delight and is most sought after. Rana uses ‘Ask n Answer’ feature on Instagram for buyers to place their bid. Thanks to technology, she’s able to do it right from her home.

Rana says, “I decided to contribute to Humanity First Foundation that was founded in 2016 by Mohammed Sujathullah, 26, another Pharm. D student from Sultan-Ul-Uloom College of Pharmacy as he has been doing exceptional work by feeding the hungry in different hospitals in the city.”

Sujathullah was elated when he heard about the auction. He said, “Raising funds from cake auctioning is new to me. My juniors would help me with small donations but this time they came with a novel proposal”, he added. "I feel this way people will captivate the youth towards this noble cause.”
