To bridge the gap between industry and academia, the Collegiate Education Department of Telangana is planning to establish “Industry-Academic Interaction Cells” to adapt conventional degree education and technical education in the coming days, keeping in view requirements of industry and other sectors.The Commissioner for Collegiate Education, Navin Mittal, made this significant announcement on the second day of the 9th Higher Education-Human Resources Conclave that concluded on Tuesday.
He said that this cell would comprise of experts from industry and senior academicians as members. He said that they would work out plans to establish either common or separate cells to cater to the employable needs of degree students as well as engineering and polytechnic students.
The main objective of this cell is to facilitate faculty upskilling, greater internship opportunities to students as well as placement drives so that meritorious lot get placed in campus recruitments themselves. "Bridging the gap between government-industry-scademia requires consistent efforts, it can't be achieved in one day," observed the senior IAS officer.
Stressing the need for students, particularly those in colleges, to acquire good communication skills, Dr A Ashok, the Commissioner and Secretary, Board of Intermediate Education and Vice-Chancellor, IIIT, RGUKT, Basar, said, "Most of our students in RGUKT come from rural areas. We encourage them to improve their communication skills to ensure they get a good job."
Venkatesh Palabatla, Chief Human Resources Officer, GMR Hyderabad International Airport, threw light on the likely effects of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI). He said, "Advances in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence will inevitably promote automation, change job prospects and drive skilled labour demand."
