Gudimalkapur: The residents of Navodaya Colony, Gudimalkapur, savoured succulent cuisines cooked by participating housewives at the ongoing “Ghar Ki Biryani” contest organised by The Hans India on Saturday. The weekend turned out to be a frolicking past time for the residents and participants of Navodaya Colony. They had a great get-together and indulged rollicking fun time by dancing, singing and playing games, even as contestants presented their mouth-watering biryanis (veg and non-veg) in the competition arena.
Naveen Kumar from Goldivia, one of the sponsors for this contest, shared his views about on the ongoing biryani contest thus: “It is heartening to see all the housewives and colony residents taking out time from their busy schedules and participating in the event. I feel this is a very nice platform for all the housewives and residents who get a chance to interact with other. In our busy life, we hardly get any time for social life, and especially to showcase talents in such competitions.
Such a competition is very important in our lives because that’s what makes us stronger and gives us fighting spirit. The Hans India came up with this amazing initiative to showcase housewives’ talents and we are very happy to be a part of this initiative.” K Vijayakumari, in-charge of event at the colony, said, “I would like to thank The Hans India for organising this event and giving the housewives a platform to show cooking skills. Also, the housewives who came to participate made this contest a grand success.”
As the event ensued with various activities taken up by the colony residents impromptu, the judge chef K Karunakar, faculty at Regency Catering College, Khairatabad, took to judging the winning biryanis out of the best ones presented by the participants. Going over a variety of flavours and aromas and taking a spoonful of the dish from each participant, the judge seemed to have tough time deciding who should be adjudged winners in both the categories. Nevertheless, he announced Varalakshmi as the winner in non-veg category for her appetising prawn biryani. Uma S won the contest in the veg category for her healthy dry fruit biryani.
Uma said, “I’m very happy that I won amongst all the other participants as everyone gave their best by cooking delicious biryanis. I didn’t expect to win but somewhere I was also hoping to win because of my dry fruit biryani which is very healthy for kids; especially, nowadays kids are very fond of eating junk foods. As an alternative, this is very tasty for them and also healthy and they would love it.”
Varalakshmi said, “I really appreciate that The Hans India gives so much priority to women and young talent in their newspaper. I am very glad about this initiative to bring out women from their kitchens and give an opportunity to showcase their cooking skills. I made prawns biryani with homemade spices and very less oil to make it tasty and healthy for all. I didn’t expect that I would win.” Both the winners said they were very excited about exhibiting their talent and best dish in the finals.
