Hyderabad: TRS senior leader and former minister T Padma Rao Goud is all set to become Deputy Speaker of the newly-elected Telangana State Assembly. Goud, who was one of the close aides of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, on Saturday filed nomination for the post of Deputy Speaker. His name was proposed by TRS working president and MLA KT Rama Rao and Animal husbandry minister T Srinivas Yadav.

The TRS leader will be elected unanimously as there is no other leader from the Opposition who filed nomination. Meanwhile, TRS working president KT Rama Rao called on CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy and urged the leaders to extend support to his party candidate. He informed the Congress leaders that AIMIM and BJP already announced their support.

Elected as MLA for three times from the Secunderabad Assembly constituency, Goud was also one of the founder-member of the TRS floated by KCR in 2001 and fought for separate state. He was Excise and Prohibition minister in the KCR’s previous regime. In view of the changed political equations after assembly elections in Greater Hyderabad, the TRS leader has not been given minister’s post in the second term. T Padma Devender Reddy held the Deputy Speaker’s post in the previous government.
