jagan2The Supreme Court Monday issued notice to the CBI on a bail plea by YSR Congress leader Jaganmohan Reddy who is in judicial custody in cases of possessing alleged illegal assets.

The apex court bench of Justice P. Sathasivam and Justice M.Y. Eqbal issued notice after Reddy's senior counsel Harish Salve said he was in custody since May 5, 2012. Salve said when Reddy's bail plea came up for hearing in October 2012, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said they would be filing a final charge-sheet in the seven cases filed against the YSR Congress leader. Reddy's counsel told the court that now the CBI had filed a separate charge-sheet and claimed that it had much more to investigate. Justice Sathasivam inquired if the probe agency had expressed apprehension that Reddy would not co-operate if granted bail and Salve said the CBI said that he was not coming clean. Agreeing to consider the plea (for bail), the court said: "We will issue notice." In October last year, when the earlier bail plea of Reddy had come up for hearing, the probe agency claimed that Reddy was involved "in very serious economic offences which are unparalleled". The CBI told the court that they were tracing the footprints of his economic offences suspected to be spread across the globe, including Mauritius and Luxembourg.
