Shashanka, 16th ranker, is AP topper

Hyderabad: More than 25 candidates from Andhra Pradesh have been selected for the civil services examination for the year 2012, registering somewhat low in success rate from the state compared to last year's tally of 38. None could make it to the top 10. K Shashanka, a city-based chartered accountant, has topped the list from the state, bagging 16th rank followed by G Srijana (44) of Hyderabad and Meghanath Reddy (55) of Kadapa district. Srijana is the daughter of senior IAS officer G Balaramaiah.

While this is second attempt for Shashanka, Srijana got it in her fourth attempt and Meghanath second time. J Keerthi (89) and NTL Reddy (100) were two others who figured in the list of top 100 rankers. Sindhu Sharma who secured 357 rank was said to be the youngest ranker from the state. She is just 23 years of age and this is her first attempt. But according to her friends, she was not happy with her rank and shied away when media persons tried to contact her.

According to initial reports, most of the candidates have been coached at Delhi. One of the reasons for less number of aspirants making it to the coveted posts was selection of number of candidates for the mains, according to Gopala Krishna of Brian Tree Academy. "This is a cycle, some times the number may be a little more. We have to actually see how our guys fare in the next year exam as a changed pattern comes into effect," he added.

But going by the number of posts, not more than seven to eight people from AP could get the IAS, according to analysts.
