To focus on local issues and YSR's welfare schemes during campaigning

Hyderabad: Considering the ensuing gram panchayat election a first step in the run up to 2014 electoral battle, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) is making all out efforts to win majority panchayats by raising local issues and recalling the welfare and development programmes launched by former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy in the poll campaign. In the first step towards achieving good results to bridge the gap between party leadership and people, the party appointed coordinators of Assembly constituencies as incharges to oversee local bodies' election in every constituency.

They have been given the authority to select the candidates for sarpanch and ward member posts in local bodies' election. The party's mandal convener will prepare the list of candidates after consulting village level leaders which will be forwarded to the coordinator who will finalise the names in consultation of the party observers and steering committee members. As the quadrangular fight in Telangana and triangular contest in Seemandhra is imminent in the ensuing local bodies' polls, YSRCP believed that strong party cadre would yield good results in the election. The YSRCP prepared a strategy to fight the TRS and Congress in Telangana region and TDP in Seemandhra region.

Party senior leader G Ramachandra Rao said though the local bodies' elections were being held on non-party basis, the victory of the candidates fielded on behalf of YSRCP would decide the fate of the party in the municipal and Assembly election. Based on the performance shown by the constituency level leaders in the local bodies' election, the party would provide them political opportunities in municipal and general election.

He said that the party had already begun exercise to strengthen party in all villages by constituting committees. The committees representing all communities will be constituted by involving all the leaders in the constituencies.

Vijayamma to fast against fee reimbursement cap

Hyderabad: Protesting against the GO issued on capping fees reimbursement for higher and technical education, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) honorary president YS Vijayamma will undertake a two-day fast on July 14 and 15 in the State capital.

Addressing the press here, party senior leader MV Mysoora Reddy said that the government issued a GO fixing a ceiling of Rs 35,000 to engineering students, which would further dilute the fees reimbursement scheme introduced by former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. The party decided that YS Vijaymma would sit on a fast for two days demanding the government to revoke the GO.

Mysoora remarked that such harsh measures would keep higher and technical education far away from the weaker sections. "This clearly shows that the Congress government is not interested in the welfare of weaker sections and has never been transparent in showing where the additional revenue generated is being spent," he charged.

The party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy held 'Fees Poru' at Indira Park from February 18 to 24 in 2011. The party undertook state wide protests on January 4, 2012. While Vijayamma held protest programmes at Eluru on August 13, 14 in 2012 and at Indira Park on September 6 and 7 in 2012.
