This decision was taken at the executive body meeting and works would begin immediately after receiving the funds, he said. Addressing the media here on Thursday, he said, "Proposals were prepared for construction of new buildings for libraries in S Kota and Kumili at a cost of Rs 20 lakh. Similarly, Rs four lakh was necessary for the renovation of Therlam library and Rs 31 lakh for construction of a special reading-room for women and children. Rs. 50,000 was needed for purchasing a generator for this library and Rs 20 lakh for buying the furniture. A report was submitted to the government in this regard," he said. "After assuming charges as Grandhalaya Samstha chairman I strove for the development of the libraries by providing basic amenities. We took up construction of libraries in Gajularega, Pusapatirega, Gurla, Bondapally and Mentada at a cost of Rs 43.5 lakh. Except Mentada, construction works of all other libraries have begun. Similarly, we set up libraries in Bobbili and Kothavalasa in government buildings with the cooperation of te District Collector," he said. "Furthermore, a representation was made to the government seeking the government lands for construction of libraries in L Kota, Bhogapuram, Komarada, Gajapathinagaram, Dattirajeru, Gantyada, Nellimerla and Garividi, he said. Apart from this, we extended library services to six sub-jails and 38 zilla parishad schools," he reminded.
