Women vow to continue Samaikyandhra agitation

Vizianagaram: Normal life was badly affected across Vizianagaram district on Saturday following a 48-hour bandh called by the APNGOs in protest against the proposed bifurcation of the State. Protesters blocked roads and national highways and disrupted vehicular traffic. The bandh had a major impact in Vizianagaram town. Vehicles were stranded as agitators blocked the roads at various places in the district. APNGOs took out a huge rally in support of Samaikyandhra. Municipal employees held a rally from Kota Junction to Ghanta Stambam Centre in Vizianagaram town. TDP activists, led by politburo member Ashok Gajapatiraju, performed ‘Palabhishekam’ to Telugu Talli statue at Ananda Gajapati Auditorium. Congress activists signed eye donation declarations.

There was a spurt in the participation of women in protests for the last few days. Women formed a human chain at Saluru and raised slogans in support of a united State. Women organised rallies at Garividi, Gajapatinagaram, Parvathipuram and Agency areas. Protesters carried empty pots to demonstrate about the water problems that would arise in the event of bifurcation of the State. They demanded the resignation of all Seemandhra people’s representatives to stall the division of the State. The women agitators vowed to continue the agitation till the Centre revokes its decision on Telangana.
