Jagtial: The newborn babies will be healthy when the pregnant women take nutritious diet, said the in-charge Joint-Collector Musharaf Farooqi. He was the chief guest at the National Nutrition Week programme held at Indian Medical Association (IMA) hall here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the in-charge J-C advised the Anganwadi teachers to take necessary steps for motivating the pregnant women to visit anganwadi centres and to provide nutritious diet to them so that they can give birth to healthy baby.

Musharaf advised the pregnant women to take calcium, iron and folic acid tablets regularly without fail along with leafy vegetables and fruit. The ne born babies must be fed with mother’s milk for six months without negligence and the mothers also must take balanced diet to maintain hemoglobin percentage in their blood, he added.

Regional Organiser Mula Vijaya said the government has established 181 Helpline Centre to protect the women and to help them in solving their problems. The women, who are facing problems, must utilise the services of 181 Helpline Centre. This Centre will be highly useful for the women living in rural areas.

The Anganwadi teachers must strive hard to place the district in top position by creating awareness among the pregnant women and their family members on the importance of mother’s milk by educating them, she advised.

Later, in-charge J-C Musharaf Farooqi and Regional Organiser Mula Vijaya released a poster of 181 Helpline Centre.

District welfare officer G Somi Reddy, district and rural development officer Aruna Sri, district educational officer Venkateswharlu, district agricultural officer Bhagya Lakshmi and district panchayat raj officer were present along with anganwadi teachers and supervisors.
