Jangaon: A video in which District Collector A Devasena accusing the local MLA M Yadagiri Reddy of encroaching shikam land has gone viral on social media.

It was said that the MLA and the Collector were at loggerheads over developmental activities at a tank Bathukammakunta, in the town, where the MLA had constructed a mini-tank bund without obtaining any permissions.

On Monday, Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari had inspected the tank bund at the invitation of the MLA and expressed his satisfaction at the development of the bund at the tank for the use of public.

But the Collector who later visited the spot expressed objections over the bund construction while speaking to Jangaon municipality councillor G Narsi Reddy and others. Someone who was present at the spot captured her conservation on mobiles and shared the video on social media websites.

She said the MLA has encroached half acre of shikam land and registered on his name and she got cancelled it after assuming the charge.

The construction of wall around the tank and filling up five acres of tank land with soil was against the Supreme Court directions. The flow of water into the tank was prevented and the tank has become a swimming pool.

. “To learn how and why this happened I asked for the files but there is nothing mentioned in the files,” Devasena said adding the issue was also taken to the notice of the Dy.CM.

For the development of the bund Rs 30 lakh was collected and spend but the expenditure details were not provided. There were many violations and no more development works were allowed at the tank.

The MLA along with the Walker Association submitted a memorandum seeking funds but he didn’t sign it, the District Collector said.

Meanwhile, the MLA and the local ruling party leaders were said to be angry at the unhelpful attitude of the Collector and complained to the Deputy CM. It was said that the Dy.CM Srihari spoke to the Collector over phone and expressed displeasure over her tirade against the MLA.

The government must immediately take action against the MLA for illegally occupying the tank land. It has become a practice for the ruling party leaders to resort to land grabbing, complained the local BJP leader K Pratap Reddy and CITU leader Pittala Kumar.
