Amrapali goes on a trekking expedition

Warangal: Warangal Urban District Collector Amrapali Kata on Friday took up a rather curious way to promote ecotourism in the reserve forest spread across Dharmasagar mandal.

She, along with her Mahabubabad counterpart Preethi Meena and other officials, spent her day out in the woods of Bayyaram and did a rock climbing feat in the hillocks of Pandavulagutta in Bhupalpally district. Her adventure went viral on the social networking platform and helped the cause of the Bhupalpally Forest Department, which has been in a mission mode to promote tourism in the region.

Amrapali ventured out to trek Inuparathi Guttalu hillocks spread across 1,500 hectares of reserve forest under Dharmasagar mandal stretched up to Damera under Elkathurthy mandal. Located just 20 kms from the city, the scenic forest has a host of wildlife – peacocks, spotted deer, four-horned antelopes, Indian gazelle (chinkara), hyenas, pythons, mongoose, lizards etc.

Speaking to The Hans India, the in-charge DFO of Warangal Urban district K Purushotham said, “Collector Amrapali, who is keen to develop lung spaces in and around the city, has plans to promote ecotourism in the hillocks by providing facilities.” As of now, the forest had a trekking path and would soon become a picnic spot, he added.

Conservator of Forests, Warangal MJ Akbar, is the man behind conducting the trekking event in which the members of NIT Nature Club and Vana Seva Society participated.
