Sircilla: A two-day workshop on ‘Safe and legal migration’ will be organised in the town on October 25 and 26, focusing women migrant workers.
Regional Passport Officer E Vishnu Vardhan Reddy said that the Ministry of External Affairs in association with Telangana government, Telangana Overseas Manpower Company Limited (TOMCOM), UN Women and Indian Centre for Migration (ICM) has been organising the workshop.
In a statement released here on Tuesday, Vishnu Vardhan Reddy informed the workshop is organised with an objective to generate greater awareness on all aspects of migration as well as to support local capacity building efforts for promoting safe and legal migration.
The Principal Secretary of Department of Labour Shashank Goel will inaugurate the two-day workshop. District officials from various departments, officials from police department, representatives from women organisations and recruiting agencies along with the representatives of several NGOs that are working for the safety of migrant labourers will attend the workshop.
A special ‘passport camp’ will also be conducted simultaneously on October 25 and 26 for the convenience of people living in Sircilla district and also for those living in neighbouring districts of Kamareddy, Jagtial and Siddipet.
The Regional Passport Officer urged the people to utilise the opportunity and said that a handbook on the rights and responsibilities of migrant women and domestic workers will be released on the occasion that is prepared by UN Women and ICM.
