Jagtial: The first phase of distribution of sheep units to the beneficiaries under the Sheep Rearing Scheme (SRS) has completed successfully in the district and the scheme is yielding good results across the State, said Government Chief Whip Koppula Eshwar.

He attended at a programme held on the successful completion of first phase of sheep units’ distribution, at District Animal Husbandry Office here on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, the Government Chief Whip stated that the government is striving hard to uplift and to boost the financial status of the downtrodden people belonging to various castes, as part of achieving Bangaru Telangana.
The insurance amount was also increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 6 lakh for Golla and Kuruma community people and insurance amount is being given to dead sheep and replacing it with another one. The government is allotting five acres for the societies for growing fodder for the sheep that were distributed under Sheep Rearing Scheme, he added.
District Collector Dr A Sharath said steps were being taken to construct about 2,800 sheds for the sheep distributed under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, keeping in view of the coming summer.
As many as 58,000 lambs were born to the sheep that were distributed under Sheep Rearing Scheme in the district till date. There is no chance of recycling in the district. One or two instances of selling of sheep from the distributed units had come to the notice but the officials took immediate action against them to prevent such type of incidents to reoccur, Sharath said.
The Sheep Rearing Scheme is implemented successfully in the district with the cooperation of every department including various people’s organisations and cooperative societies, he added. Jagtial MLA Jeevan Reddy, Korutla MLA Vidya Sagar, Director of State Animal Husbandry Venkateshwarlu, Managing Director of Gorrela, Mekala Development Corporation Lakshma Reddy, Dharmapuri ZPTC B Rajamani, Cooperative Societies leaders Odelu Yadav, Mallesh Yadav and Narsaiah Yadav were present along with others.
