waterWarangal: In view of the 'World Water Day,' several programmes were held in the district on Friday. Several government and non-governmental organisations organised different programmes across the district marking the event on the day. At the district head quarters Bala Vikasa Social Service Society has organized an awareness rally. The rally flagged off by Kendra Sahitya Academi award recipient Ampasayya Naveen was taken from public garden to District Collector's office. Hundreds of students and public participated in the rally displaying placards and water pots. The fans of cine actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, environment activists, Municipal officials and Vallampatla Arts Academy students took part in rally titled 'Walk for Water'. Ampasayya Naveen addressing the gathering at Public Gardens said that citizens have to preserve water using rain water harvesting pits. Shoury Reddy, executive director, Bala Vikasa expressed concern over the fact that the society members have been withdrawing water from the ground without making any efforts to deposit rain water. Government need to implement WALTA act effectively to control the over exploitation of ground water and put concerted efforts to implement water conservation activities extensively by allocating reasonable budget on top priority, he added. A human chain district collector's office was organised. Vallampatla Arts Acadamy head Vallampatla Nageshwar Rao, Prof. Takur Ratan Singh, municipal corporation environmental Engineer Saritha, and others were present.
