India vs Australia: Will David Warner be available for 3rd ODI? Aaron Finch shares an update
Australia captain Aaron Finch said David Warner, who suffered an injury during the second One-Day International (ODI) against India on Sunday, may not be available for the third and final match of the series
Australia captain Aaron Finch said David Warner, who suffered an injury during the second One-Day International (ODI) against India on Sunday, may not be available for the third and final match of the series.
While Australia defeated India by 51 runs and sealed the three-match series 2-0, they were hit with a second injury scare after Marcus Stoinis suffered a side strain in the opening ODI that the hosts won by 66 runs.
Warner, who tumbled in the field to save a single, limped off in the fourth over of the second innings on Sunday. Even though the extent of Stoinis' injury remains unclear, it is understood he will remain with the Australian squad for the underway limited-overs series. As per Finch's post-match interview after Australia's victory in the second ODI, the hosts may have to reshuffle their side as Warner could miss the third ODI that is scheduled to be played on Wednesday in Canberra.
Reacting to Australia's batting effort on Sunday, Finch said," It was I guess (perfect performance with the bat). Anytime you get in the high 300s is good. I'm very pleased to wrap it up in two wins."
When asked about Warner's injury, the Aussie skipper said he had no idea about his opener's fitness as of then. "We've got to reshuffle it around, I don't think he'll be available," added Finch in the post-match interview.
Finch scored a century in the first ODI and followed that with a 69-ball 60 on Sunday. In both the games, Warner and Finch shared a stand of 100-plus runs. "Bit quicker would have been nice (on his own batting) but laid the foundation for the guys at the back end to come and play free cricket. The way Davey played up front was unbelievable. Then Smithy played out of his skin for two matches in a row. Henriques bowled to a simple plan and changed his pace a lot. As Virat said, we probably got a blueprint with Hardik's bowling, he was really hard to hit with pace off deliveries," Finch said further.
After the dead rubber ODI on Wednesday, India and Australia will lock horns in three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) before the focus will shift to the much-awaited four-Test Border-Gavaskar series, starting with the pink ball Test at the Adelaide Oval on Dec. 17.
