A team of doctors from SVS Medical College in Mahbubnagar saved the life of an 18-month-old baby who had swallowed a groundnut seed that blocked her windpipe causing severe difficulty in breathing and chronic bronchitis.

Mahbubnagar: A team of doctors from SVS Medical College in Mahbubnagar saved the life of an 18-month-old baby who had swallowed a groundnut seed that blocked her windpipe causing severe difficulty in breathing and chronic bronchitis.

Upon diagnosing it, the team of doctors led by Associate Professor Dr T Venkateshwar Reddy, an experienced pulmonologist, immediately provided basic treatment and later conducted a few tests and finally ascertained that the baby had a groundnut seed got stuck in her windpipe causing severe breathing problems.

After having internal discussions, the doctors came to a conclusion of taking up the most advanced medical procedure of 'Rigid Bronchoscopic Surgery' which is usually done in highly super specialty hospitals in Hyderabad.

Taking the help and assistance of paediatric specialist , Dr. Venkteshwar Reddy and with the help of other post-graduate doctors, removed the groundnut grain successfully and saved the life of the little one.

"Usually, this kind of complex surgery is done only in super specialty hospitals under the supervision of highly specialised doctors. However, as the time was very less, we took up the challenge and could save the life of the little one successfully," informed Dr T Venkatshwar Reddy.
