Focus on bio-medical waste: DM&HO B Harish Raj

Speaking at an awareness programme on bio-medical waste management organised by Indian Medical Association (IMA) and THANA here on Sunday, he said that district monitoring committee headed by Collector would oversee the biomedical waste generated in the district, its treatment and disposal facilities.
"Hospitals having in-patient facility or not, will have to comply the norms. All the hospitals must possess a certificate issued by the Pollution Control Board (PCB). Ayush and veterinary hospitals also need to get a certificate from PCB, he added. Segregation of the bio-medical waste and its disposal should be done in accordance with the guidelines of the PCB, he said.
IMA district president Dr N Surender Reddy urged the authorities to decrease the price of fee for bio-waste disposal management. The officials should also take bed occupancy into consideration while finalising fee, he added.
THANA district president Dr V Rakesh, PCB engineer Sravan Kumar, district quality assurance manager Dr Sagar and deputy DM&HO Md Yakoob were among others present.
