Warangal: Around 4,000 chickens in a farm owned by Modu Chukru succumbed to blistering heatwave with temperatures hovering around 45 degree Celsius at AK Thanda under Raiparthy mandal on Monday.

Chukru said that even though they have made arrangements to protect the 5,000 chickens from sweltering heat conditions, the outage of power supply cast its shadow on the lives of birds. It's learnt that heavy wind during the last week snapped the power lines in the area.

Chukru said that despite repeated appeals the electricity department delayed restoration of power supply.

The electricity department took three days to replace the power cables and one day to restore the power supply. As a result, around 4,000 chickens worth around Rs 5lakh died, Chukru said, blaming the electricity department.
