Hyderabad: More than 120 nominations were rejected by Returning Officers in different Lok Sabha constituencies during the scrutiny of applications on Tuesday. In all 795 nominations were filed for 17 Lok Sabha segments.

After the closure of filing of nominations on Monday, scrutiny of forms was taken up on Tuesday. Election Commission received details of rejected applications from 16 segments.

According to the data given up to 9. 30 pm, the highest number of applications rejected were in Malkajgiri (27), while not a single nomination was rejected in Zaheerabad.

In other segments, as many as 21 nominations were rejected in Secunderabad, 12 in Nizamabad, eight in Karimnagar, four in Adilabad, 10 in Peddapalli, two each in Medak and Mahabubabad, five each in Hyderabad and Khammam, four in Chevella, three in Nagarkurnool, eight each in Nalgonda and Warangal segments.

After scrutiny of nominations, 191 candidates remained in the fray. Officials, who earlier announced 245 nominations were received in Nizamabad revised that figure to 203 on Tuesday evening.

From Hyderabad, nominations of Akbaruddin Owaisi (AIMIM), Satish Agarwal (BJP), Mohammed Abdul Qavi Abbasi (TJS) among others were rejected. AIMIM had already fielded Akbar's brother Asaduddin Owaisi, who is the sitting MP from Hyderabad Lok Sabha.

TJS candidate who filed nomination on the last day was also in the rejection list. From Adilabad, candidatures of two Congress leaders Ritesh Rathod and Jadav Naresh were also rejected.
