Hyderabad: The Congress has announced that it would take up protest programmes across the State on June 2, the Foundation Day of Telangana, against the attempts of Andhra Pradesh government to take more water from Pothireddypadu Head Regulator. Addressing the media, PCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, along with MPs A Revanth Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, said that the one- day fast would be taken up at SLBC tunnel on the same day.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Telangana has been achieved to protect the rights of people of the region in water and funds usage. He said that the statements of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao have no value. He made it clear that the Chief Minister has the responsibility of protecting the rights of the State.

He alleged that though AP Chief Minister YS Jagan made a statement in that State's Assembly on PRP but the Telangana government did not respond. He said that AP has been taking away two times more water from PRP than Kaleswaram project. He said that while water could be got with gravity the government prefers lift irrigation schemes.

He said that no State government has invited for tenders during the lockdown period except Telangana. He said that the farmers would oppose the new agriculture policy of the State. MP Venkat Reddy said that they would oppose the GO 203 of Andhra Pradesh which would make Telangana a desert. He said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao allowed AP CM YS Jagan foolishly into his official residence. He wanted to know as to why the State government was neglecting South Telangana projects while it has completed 90 per cent works of Kaleswaram LIS.

Revanth Reddy said that Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao did not speak on Pothireddypadu when its capacity was expanded in 2005 as a leader of Telangana movement. Chandrasekhar Rao did not speak on the same issue when he came out of the Central cabinet in 2006. It was P Janardhan Reddy who fought against Pothireddypadu.
