Hyderabad: In wake of misery upon misery being piled upon the poor by the Covid-induced lockdown, the city-based Centre for Action Research and People's Development (CARPED) has mounted relief measures in both the Telugu States. It has provided succour to the families in distress through cash transfers of Rs 1000 to Rs 2000 to over hundred heavily indebted and marginalised households of weavers in Chirala and Pochampally with the support of iVolunteer and IndiaFellow.Org. It also supplied dry ration kits and sanitisation materials to 500 families in Hamali Basti with the support of Habitat for Humanity India and 500 transgenders in Hyderabad. Philanthropists helped its efforts, , informed Bharath Bhushan Mamidi, Executive Secretary, CARPED, and a Project Coordinator at CESS.
At two events in the city on Wednesday, CARPED distributed kits of dry ration and sanitisation materials (comprising 15 items such as rice, cooking oil, pulses, upma ravva, what flour, chilli powder and turmeric) to assist 100 families at Ashaiah Nagar (Borabanda), and another 100 families in Mohammed Nagar in Kowdipally mandal in Sangareddy district. Farooq, vice sarpanch of Mohammed Nagar, Banswada Mahipal Reddy and S Srinivas explained the importance of measures to arrest transmission of Covid-19.
CARPED roped in volunteers of Concerned Citizens Forum to help the cause. Dr H Vageeshan and N Sudhakar, High Court advocates, S Pruthvi Chakravarthy, T Giri and Prasad were present. Identified vulnerable families were provided ration kits with the help of student volunteers from NALSAR and police from Rahmath Nagar outpost. The organisers also spread hygiene awareness at the camps.
