Nizamabad/Kamareddy: Of late, the women's health has taken the centre stage, thanks to various ailments that plague them including the growing cases of cancer, hypertension and diabetes. The women who used to usually confine themselves to kitchens and to their offices are taking some time out of their busy schedules and hitting the gyms to burn calories and to remain healthy. Promoting this, a lot of gyms have also been mushroomed in the districts of Nizamabad and Kamareddy to help the women achieve their goal of physical and mental fitness.

Overcoming the gender stereotypes, girls and women of today's generation are taking up jobs that need physical strength besides managing chores at their homes very ably.

Sharing her experience with The Hans India, D Siddi Lakshmi, an intermediate student from Khalilwadi, said "I've been going to the gym for the last eight months. Doing regular drills has upped my concentration levels besides helping me reduce over 15kg.

"I have been hitting the fitness centre for the last two years. I do a variety of drills for over two hours. The regular exercise has helped in reducing stress, weight and increased the strength and immunity," said Mukuloth Mounika, a fitness trainer.

Sharing similar views, Benjaram Vinitha Reddy, a law student feels that exercising at fitness centres helps in overcoming physical and mental stress and also reduces anger and irritability besides calming the mind. "By regular exercising the unnecessary fats that accumulate in our body get burnt and the blood regulation and respiration rate increase. The mind and body are in our possession. Regular workouts keep us energised throughout the day," she said.

Stating that the fitness centres have erased gender stereotypes by encouraging both women and men to practice regular exercises to keep themselves fit, MD Wasim, a fitness trainer said there has been an increase in number of women joining fitness centres in the district. In the past, around 10 to 15 young women used to join, but now the numbers have reached 100 to 250 with many women, especially housewives joining the gym.

According to gym organisers, mostly girls and the women below 50 years are joining the fitness centres. Further, working women are also taking their time out to sweat at these centres. And with the prices pocket-friendly, many men and women are preferring to workout at the gyms as these offer a plethora of exercises to strengthen their muscles, shed weight and improve their health and immunity.
