Khammam: Jal Shakti Abhiyan District Nodal Officer Rajeev Ranjan Mishra called upon officials to conserve water so that it could be provided to future generations. Addressing a review meeting here at TTD Bhavan in Khammam on Thursday, Mishra said creating awareness among people about conservation of water was very important and it should start from the village-level.

Stating that water should be sparingly used so that it could be saved for future and utilised, Mishra said the importance of recycling of water should also be propagated besides its conservation and harvesting. He said water harvested through rainwater pits help in recharge of groundwater.

He called for involving women and Rythu Samakya organisations besides the media for creating awareness on water conservation.

Collector RV Karnan called for conducting rallies, debates and essay writing competitions for students to bring awareness on water conservation. He said every person should harvest rainwater.

Later, the officials visited Sri Rama Hill Colony and examined the wastewater purifying system.

Members of the Jala Shakti Abhiyan Kulvanth Rana, Vijay Prakesh and Harinath Singh, Joint Collector Anurag Jaynanthi, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Priyanka, District Forest Officer Praveena, District Rural Development Project Director Indhumathi, Agricultural Officer Jhansi Laxmi Kumar, Deputy Director Mineral department Anand Kumar, Scientists Dr Hanmanth Kumar and other officials attended the programme.
