Mellacheruvu (Suryapet): Irked over the apathy of staff at Tahsildar's office in Mallecheruvu, the farmers of Revuru village on Wednesday locked the gate of the office and staged a dharna seeking justice.

According to sources, in 1975, the Revenue officials issued Pattadar passbooks to farmers for 800 acres of land in Survey numbers 17 and 1088 under Revuru village of Melacheruvu mandal in the district.

While a few farmers sold their lands to the management of cement company located near the village, the remaining farmers have been making rounds to Mellacheruvu Tahsildar's office seeking new passbooks for the last few months. With pleas falling on deaf ears, the farmers staged a protest at the Tahsildar's office on Wednesday.

The irate farmers entered into argument with the officials of Tahsildar office and questioned them over their negligence. They, however, withdrew their protest after getting an assurance of issuing new pattadar passbooks on May 25 by staff of Tahsildar's office.
