Telangana Government likely to uncork quota on liquor bars

Hyderabad: The State government is likely to provide reservations in issuance of bar and restaurant licences to people of various communities. This was revealed by Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud while replying to questions in Assembly on Monday.

Goud said the reservations would be provided as it was done earlier while issuing licences for liquor shops. He said the government had provided 15 per cent reservations to Goud community, 10 per cent to Scheduled Castes and 5 per cent to Scheduled Tribes. It was extending reservations to ensure economic development of various communities, he said.

The Minister stated that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had ushered in many reforms in the State and set up hundreds of residential schools for economic development of weaker sections.

Goud stated that the CM had promised to provide reservations in the allocation of licences of bars and restaurants, adding that the government would soon take a decision on the issue.

He further disclosed that the reservations would be provided on the basis of districts in a transparent manner. He alleged that the previous governments ignored welfare of the Goud community treating it as vote banks.
