Hyderabad: Perhaps, Telangana registered a record of sorts in shifting migrant workers to their native states. On a single day on Saturday, 45 Shramik trains carrying nearly 40,000 workers left from Lingampally, Secunderabad and other railways stationa from the city . Already, 1.22 lakh migrant workers were transported by 88 trains to their destinations - Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh. Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar flagged off trains carrying migrant workers from Nampally railway station. Six trains left from Nampally railway station in the morning and another 40 departed from other stations in the night.

The official said that the Railways are providing food to the migrant workers. In addition, the state government is arranging two food packets and three litres of drinking water and fruits for each migrant worker. Most of the migrant workers who have registered with the state government have left on Saturday and most of them have also expressed their desire to come back to the state again. State DGP M Mahender Reddy observed that the migrant workers are part of the reconstruction process of the state. He felt that sending the migrant workers to their respective hometowns safely and conveniently in a dignified atmosphere is a goodwill gesture by the state government.
