The Telangana prisons departement is setting up an open-air jail for inmates at Sangareddy, the first of its kind in the state.
The gym is a part of the useful programmes for the physical fitness of those in jail, a senior official of the prisons department said.
The gym with at least 10 fitness equipments will be set up in one of the lawns and will start functioning in the next 10 days, said Jail Superintendent Nawab Shiva Kumar Goud. The equipment will be obtained through the manufacturing unit in the jail itself.
There are about 240 inmates -- 50 convicted and 190 remand prisoners who participate in Yoga and other physical activities.
