Hyderabad: Coronavirus pandemic has gripped the whole world and the nationwide lockdown to combat with corona has taken away the livelihoods of marginalised communities and migrant labours. In these turbulent times, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Telangana, has come forward and lent them a helping hand.

In association with Coca Cola India, it catered to the needs of more than six lakh people by providing them food packets, ration kits and safety kits. It has conducted blood donation camps and sensitised people on the importance of personal hygiene.

Speaking to The Hans India, IRCS state disaster management coordinator Vijay Kumar Babu said, "Around 3,610 volunteers have been deployed in advocacy, awareness, community surveillance and delivery of essential items to the needy. Efforts have also been stepped up to provide an uninterrupted supply of blood to about 15,037 thalassemia patients through eight blood banks in Telangana. State Governor and TRCS Chairperson Tamilisai Soundararajan conducted a video conference on March 28 and April 2, motivating volunteers to render their services. We've also helped stranded migrant labourers and students from Manipur, Bihar and Odisha."
