Hyderabad: While few senior leaders of the Telangana Congress have been seriously trying to secure the PCC president post, few other leaders of the party are expressing doubts that whether the AICC springs a surprise by giving the post to a dark horse.

The history of making appointments to the party president post and the Chief Minister post is an indication that the AICC is in a habit of making surprise appointments to them.

According to senior leaders, the high command of the Congress has appointed one Musalaiah as PCC president when Vengal Rao was the Chief Minister during the combined state period.

The high command set aside the names of the aspirants and selected Musalaiah as APCC president who was not known much in the political circles.

They have also pointed out that veteran leader M Satyanarayana Rao was made president of the APCC when YS Rajasekhar Reddy was Chief Minister.

The high command picked up MSR, who was not known much among the people, setting aside the proposal of YSR to make U Purushotham Reddy as AP-PCC chief.

In the same way few leaders have emerged from nowhere as presidents of the PCC. Few leaders were appointed Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh when Congress was in power. For example the party picked up T Anjaiah as Chief Minister.

They said that this time also such a possibility could not be written off as AICC considers several issues while picking up a leader for the PCC chief.

However, few other leaders have not agreed with this argument. They said that in the present prevailing political conditions in the state, the high command may not risk appointing a dark horse as PCC chief.

They said that the party is now facing two major political rivals in the state in the form of Telangana Rashtra Samithi and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Senior leader M Kodanda Reddy said that the Congress should have won the 2014 Assembly elections. But it has lost due to various reasons.

He said that there was strong wave in favour of the party in 2018 Assembly elections and it has failed to cash on it.

He said that this time the high command should select a strong leader who has come from the grassroot level and has good understanding on the political conditions of the State.
