Hanamkonda: The Forest Department on Monday observed World Earth Day that signifies the importance of raising awareness about pollution. As part of the observance, Commissioner of Police V Ravinder flagged off a 3-kilometer Walkathon from Public Gardens to Zoo Park emphasising the need for protecting Mother Earth.

Chief Conservator of Forests M J Akbar, DFO (Urban) G Ramalingam, DFO (Rural) K Purushotham and members of Jana Vignana Vedika, Vana Seva Society and walkers associations participated in the Walkathon. The walkathon was followed by wildlife photo exhibition, distribution of water pots for birds, prizes to school children and administration of Earth Pledge at the Zoo Park.
