Kakinada: Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue Minister Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose said that 4 lakh gram volunteers appointed to provide services to each of 50 families in the State and they will discharge duties from August 15, the Independence Day onwards.

Addressing the two-day training programme of mandal-level gram volunteer trainees at ZP Meeting Hall here on Friday, the Minister said these volunteers will act as representatives of the government at lower-level for coordinating various governmental programmes with public.

The Minister said these volunteers will extend the benefits of government to all eligible beneficiaries irrespective of caste, religion or political affiliations.

The Minister also said the duties of gram volunteers will be monitored by the Chief Minister's office directly and any erring volunteer will be removed from duties immediately.

Subhash Chandra Bose also said that efforts are being made to provide housesites by Ugadi, the Telugu New Year, to 25 lakh homeless poor in the State.

District Collector D Muralidhar Reddy said that establishment of Gram Sachivalayas was a historical decision which would fulfil the requirements of the 73rd constitutional amendment on rural development.

The Minister also said 24, 578 gram volunteers have been selected in East Godavari and they will be given orientation-classes at Mandal level from August 5-10 by the trainers.

East Godavari CEO M Jyothi said that master trainers will be given two-day training at district level, who in turn give training to volunteers at mandal-level. Rajakumari, JC2, SV Nageswara Naik, DPO and others participated in the programme.
