Anantapur: District Collector Gandham Chandrudu formally handed over the 491 acres of land at Jantaluru village in Bukkarayasamudram mandal in the district to Central University officials at a function held here on Saturday. An 8 km long compound wall is being built and already 3 km of wall has been completed while the remaining 5 km wall around the 491 acres of land will be completed by March end. Presently, 219 students are pursuing various courses in a temporary space provided by JNTUA in its premises.

District Collector Chandrudu said that the buildings will be completed on a fast track basis and by the time the students complete their 2nd academic year, the buildings too will be completed and Rs.60 crores had been earmarked for construction of buildings. The central university was sanctioned to the district as part of the AP Reorganisation Act,2014.

MP Talari Rangaiah said that he would do his best for the development of the central university.

AP Higher Education Commission member Sambasiva Reddy said that he was happy that the university is located in Singanamala constituency which is represented by his wife Jonnalagadda Padmavathi.

The Collector also handed over cheques worth Rs.18 lakhs to two farmers who had given their land for the university. Joint Collector Dilli Rao also spoke.
