Eluru: Collector R Muthyala Raju has directed education officials to conduct baseline test for students of classes III, IV and V of all government schools on June 27 to decide their standard. At a meeting of the education officials, the Collector said the test should cover Telugu, English and arithmetic subjects and the questionnaire should be simple and without contents in textbook.

This baseline test should help to know whether the students can be able to read and write properly. The results of the test should be uploaded. The Collector also asked the officials to focus on the standard of students of classes from VI to IX. Care should be taken to specially impart teaching to the poor students. It would not be wise to concentrate only on Class X students.

The students should be imparted properly from their Class VI so that they could be in a better position by the time they enter Class X. With 93 pass percentage in Class X, the other seven are being ignored. Every student should pass the exam. He said he was not asking the teachers to work overtime but do all the above in the school hours.
