He inaugurated the Teachers' Day celebrations at the A1 function hall in Ongole on Thursday by paying rich tributes to Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his 131st birth anniversary here on Thursday.

Speaking at the programme, the Collector announced that the government was giving utmost priority to education. He said that everyone would have teachers in one way or other in their life and advised them to pay respect to their teacher at least once in a year.

He advised the teachers in the schools to provide education without pressurizing the children, by explaining the concepts and teaching discipline. He said that the State government would provide Rs 15,000 to mothers under Amma Vodi scheme and announced that they would initiate an action plan to introduce physical education in all government and private schools.

He said that the teachers could meet him on every first and third Saturday from 04.00 PM to 05.00 PM at the Collectorate regarding their service requests. MLC Y Srinivasa Reddy advised the teachers to treat teaching as a service-oriented profession but not any profitable business. He appreciated the State government for announcing Best Teacher awards to nearly 300 teachers in the district.

MLA Manugunta Mahidhar Reddy asked the teachers to try to remove mental tension from the students and keep the district in top position. MLA Kunduru Nagarjuna Reddy said that the teachers guide the students to a good path, though there are many problems in the schools.

Later, the Collector presented best teacher awards to 292 teachers from the district while Joint Collector S Shanmohan, DEO VS Subbarao, SSA PO Venkateswarlu also participated in the programme.
