Visakhapatnam: In their own little way, a group of bikers aim to do their bit to improve the depleting green cover through seed bombing bike expedition.

Aptly christened as 'Monsoon ride for a cause', 15 bikers are all set to take advantage of the season and lay emphasis on the need not just to plant saplings but also maintain them.

Covering a distance of close to 270-km as part of the expedition scheduled on July 14, the maiden CSR (corporate social responsibility) initiative of Visakhapatnam chapter's Road Thrill, a bikers' community spread across India, will commence opposite Tenneti Park to Annavaram and back to the starting point.

Explaining about the ensuing trip, Naveen Nembhwani, travel photographer and administrator of the local chapter's Road Thrill, says, "Earlier, a few of the team took part in the night camping at Araku, South-India expedition, among others. However, this is the first time that the Visakhapatnam chapter is teaming up for seed bombing bike expedition which is impactful."

The bikers plan to throw the seed bombs made of organic fertilisers and manure along with seeds of Gulmohar, papaya, banyan, tamarind and neem in the barren land and open pits along the Highway. "About 600 seeds have been used for the purpose. After placing the seed bombs, we will also tag the location through Google maps and revisit the place after three to four weeks to check on the blooming plants and make an effort to maintain them," says Naveen, who is also keen on seeking professional help from one of his friends visiting from Horticulture Department, New Delhi. With the onset of monsoon, the bikers say that the rains will take care of seed bombs and help them sprout.

Fascinated by the concept, Lakky Jain, the only woman biker in the team, says, "My husband and I share a common interest and we love biking. Since this one is for a cause, it motivates me all more to join the expedition, have fun and care for the environment." She and her husband Rahul Jain look forward to the trip.

Sharing his views on the importance of planting trees and increasing forest cover, another biker from squad Ray Jain, says "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken up a massive plantation drive in Uttar Pradesh, involving farmers and residents. Besides, NGOs too are taking an active role in increasing the green cover in North India. Our organic seed bombing drive aims to replenish the lost greenery in Visakhapatnam."

Armed with protective gear, the team is preparing to start off the expedition at 6 am on July 14
