Chittoor: Expressing fears that the number of Covid-19 cases may be increased in the district due to links of vegetable traders with Koyambedu market in Chennai, District Collector N B Gupta stated that social welfare hostels across the district will be converted as corona relief centres. These hostels can accommodate about 20,000 corona virus suspects. Necessary beds, bed sheets and buckets will be provided at the centres, N B Gupta said. The district reported 11 new corona positive cases mostly relating to Koyambedu contacts. It is decided to conduct tests to all the contacts of Koyembedu, he said.

Addressing a meeting with the officials of social welfare hostels at the Collectorate on Saturday, District Collector said that instructions were given to identify the suspected contacts of drivers, cleaners and traders hailing from Palamaner, Srikalahasti and Satyavedu Assembly segments in the district who have contacts with Koyembedu vegetable market. The wardens of the social welfare hostels would resume their duties immediately for maintaining the proposed corona relief centres. Joint Collector 2 V R Chandra Mouli, Deputy Director for Social Welfare Rajyalakshmi, District BC and ST Welfare officers were present .
