Nellore: Congress activists staged a protest at the Clock Tower in Gudur town on Monday, demanding an immediate decision on construction of Dugarajapatnam Port in the district. They also demanded Special Category Status (SCS) to the State respecting the AP Reorganisation Act.

Former MP Chinta Mohan said that the port is 400-year old and the Congress previously had spent around Rs 18 crore for its viability issues and the agency revealed that the Port would become 5th biggest port in the world and still it has been neglected by the previous governments. He said though the issue of construction of the port has been mentioned in the Reorganization Act it was ignored. He said, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy assured for the port during his election campaign and now he is keeping mum.

The Congress leader demanded to place the issue in his agenda while meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also said that there is a need for SCS for development of the State. He asked why the YSRCP had not taken up any steps to get the SCS to AP after coming to power. BJP and YSRCP leaders are not giving any clarity on the issue of Dugarajapatnam Port. He explained that huge employment opportunities are possible once the port works commence. Local Congress leaders were also present.
