The network is a large international WiFi hotspot, where each participating institute makes its internet available on a reciprocal basis
Visakhapatnam: GITAM is extending the global educational roaming (Eduroam) facility to its students and faculty from the new academic year, informed chief technology officer G Gopalakrishna here on Tuesday. Further, he mentioned that the platform is secure and gives worldwide WiFi roaming access service for the education and research community which allows the users to use the internet free of charge at participating institutes.
He said that the network is a large international WiFi hotspot, where each participating institute makes its internet available on a reciprocal basis. With enrolment into Eduroam, the institution's faculty, researchers and students can now use the internet at other institutes (universities, schools, museums, libraries, etc.,) who are part of the Eduroam network across the world (in more than 100 countries), he added. Similarly, a visitor from other Eduroam participating institute visiting the institution will be able to access the internet.
120 Women colleagues in PAT
Meanwhile, Pfizer Healthcare India Private Ltd, an export-oriented undertaking of Pfizer Inc located at Visakhapatnam has collaborated with GITAM to include over 120 women colleagues in its second batch of 'Pfizer Autonomous Teams' (PATs) programme. PATs, a women-only programme, will offer participants a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree in the chemistry department, with a focus on microbiology – while rotating through different departments at the site, to gain hands on experience and put their studies into action, said Pfizer Vizag site lead Vikram Shukla while launching the programme at the campus.
PAT programme is a unique platform that endeavors to create the best and most preferred learning experiences for future working professionals. The programme offers an opportunity as the women colleagues can gain three years of experience while they pursue their bachelor's degree education. Addressing students and parents, Vice-Chancellor of the institution Dayananda Siddavattam said that Pfizer is one of the best companies in the world and the collaboration gives way to a golden opportunity to the girl students.
