Government extends deadline for SIT probe on Visakhapatnam land irregularities

The government has extended the deadline of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up for a comprehensive investigation into the land irregularities in Visakhapatnam and surrounding areas. Visakhapatnam land scandal in the Telugu Desam regime has created a state-wide sensation. In this backdrop, the YSRCP government set up an SIT to inquire on irregularities. The government issued a GO stating the SIT to submit a report on the allegations of tampering land records, alienating state land and manipulating private land records.

The SIT, which investigated for the last three months have said that it requires some time to hold a comprehensive investigation. However, SIT has recently submitted an interim report to CM. Given the scope of the investigation and the need for a thorough investigation, SIT sought the time for submission of the final report. The govt extended another three months for inquiry and issued an order on Wednesday to this extent.
