Vijayawada: After six years of struggle, the Government Urdu Medium Junior College located in Wynch Pet, Old City will be shifted to the new premises near Kabela junction in 10 days. The existing college is located in a small place where four educational institutions are functioning.

Municipal Corporation High School, Urdu and Telugu medium elementary schools and Urdu Medium Junior College are located in one premises. These institutions are located in the buildings which belong to Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. Keeping in view of the demand from the parents and students for Urdu Medium College, the VMC had agreed to give some rooms for setting up of Urdu Medium Junior College in one town.

The college is run by Board of Intermediate Education. The students and staff have faced many hardships due to lack of basic amenities and due congested rooms. After six years of struggle, the college is going to be shifted to new building in Kablela Centre, said Shaik Ahmed, the principal of the college.

He said the new college building has nine rooms that are sufficient to run the junior college and the students have bus facility to Kabela junction from many parts of the city.

More over, the government has given permission to recruit the faculty in the college. Lecturers will be appointed to teach Economics, Maths, Commerce, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology.

The government will pay honorarium of Rs.10,000 per month to the contract lecturers. Ahmed said the letter has been sent to the Government to increase the honorarium to Rs.27,000 per month. He said the government has to take decision on the subject. The new building was built with Nabard funds of Rs.2.30 crore.

So far, the present roll is 140 and the students are studying CEC, MPC, BiPC and HEC courses. Admissions will be increased in the college in future due to shifting of college to spacious new premises as well as recruiting the faculty.

The college achieved 100 per cent results four years and stood first and second in Krishna district pass percentage in the last six years. Referring to the objections raised by some parents that new building is far away, the principal said plenty of bus services are available for the convenience of students.
