Guntur : Joint collector and district level-scrutiny committee chairman A S Dinesh Kumar will conduct an inquiry into the caste of Tadikonda MLA Dr Vundavalli Sridevi on November 26.

He already issued a notice to the legislator to appear before inquiry panel and produce all necessary documents to prove she belongs to SC category. The probe is being taken up following the instructions of the Election Commission of India as well as President Ram Nath Kovind.

In a statement, the joint collector recalled that the MLA stated that she was a Christian while speaking to a channel. She claimed that she belongs to SC and contested from SC reserved Tadikonda Assembly constituency as YSRCP candidate in 2019 Assembly elections.

A complaint was lodged with the Election Commission by A Santosh of Legal Rights Protection Forum, an NGO, in September regarding her caste. Dinesh Kumar informed that the Election Commission directed him to conduct the inquiry on MLA caste and submit a report.

According to state government's rule, SCs who converted to Christianity fall under Group-C category of Other Backward Classes.
