Kakinada: 'Eggs, chicken will not spread coronavirus'

Kakinada: Animal Husbandry Department Deputy Director Dr KV Ramakrishna said that Covid-19 would not infect poultry and people should not fear consumption of eggs and chicken.

Speaking to "The Hans India" here on Tuesday, he appealed to the public not to believe rumours doing rounds on the social media. He said that diseases were spreading in some poultry farms because vaccination programmes were not taken up in time. He said that virus cannot be transmitted by consuming eggs and chicken. He quoted the World Organisation for Animal Health and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, which have both vouched for the safety of eating meat and chicken saying that there is no scientific evidence indicating that the Covid-19 is transmitted from animal to humans. He said that Covid-19 will spread from an affected human to another human but not by taking egg and chicken. It is completely safe to eat.
