Kakinada: As per the Election Commission's instructions, election for Mayor and Deputy Mayor would be held at Kakinada Municipal Corporation on Monday.
The election became necessary following the removal of sitting mayor SPavani and Deputy Mayor K Sathibabu through a no-confidence motion on October 5.
However, Pavani approached the court to get justice.The court allowed the motion, but directed the election officials not to reveal the result until the court gives its final verdict.
Meanwhile, the government removed Pavani and Kala Sathibabu from Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts and also issued Gazette notification.
In these circumstances, the 40th division Corporator SSiva Prasanna is likely to contest for the Mayor post. Siva Prasanna was elected as Corporator in 2017 elections on behalf of Telugu Desam, but she supported the ruling YSRC and became a rebel in the TDP, along with other 21 Corporators.
At present, the TDP rebel Corporators said that they have a strength of 36 in the council including three ex-officio members, eight ruling YSRC and two BJP Corporators.
The TDP has only the strength of 10 Corporators at present. The TDPleadership has not also issued any whip to their party corporators about the election.
