Nellore: As the state government settled on taking up the seaport project at Rayamapatnam in Prakasam district, the district administration has proposed a mega industrial hub at Kavali planning to tap the industry-related resources. The port has been proposed in around 3,200 acres of land at Chevuru, Ravuru and there are huge vacant lands in the Kavali division.

Officials identified around 6,500 acres of land at Chennayapalem, Anemadugu, Thummalapenta, and other villages, close to the proposed port at Ramayapatnam. The district administration has informed the state government in July this year about the availability of the lands and the plans for setting up a mega industrial hub in the area.

According to officials, there are 1,475 acres of land at Chennayapalem, 898 acres at Anemadugu, 870 acres at Kavali and 3,250 acres at Thummalapenta village. They identified these lands in two blocks and would be utilised for the proposed industrial hub. Majority lands are within a range of 5-10 km to the proposed port and there would be a possibility for easy transportation.

The proposed lands are close to the Chennai-Kolkata NH at Kavali besides having road, rail, and port connectivity. Rallapadu reservoir will meet water needs for the industries and power can be utilised from Kavali 33kv station, if the proposal comes to true. Already there is a proposal for upgrading the Kavali-SR Puram road (NH-167BG)as an important highway keeping the demand for transport after Ramayapatnam port is built.

The government is considering connecting the interior parts of Nellore, Kadapa, and Prakasam districts through a 105-km long road linking interior upland mandals of Nellore with others. The proposed project reduces traffic congestions and resolve difficulties of commuters for hassle-free transportation. The road would also be an advantage for the proposed industrial hub, officials say.
