Guntur: Minister for Municipal Administration Botcha Satyanarayana and Minister for Marketing Mopidevi Venkataramana on Saturday faced wrath of the construction workers during their visit to Guntur city.
The construction workers met Botcha and Mopidevi and explained their problems. They pointed out that due to non-availability of sand, construction activity in the State came to a grinding halt and as a result the workers were deprived of work.
They said lakhs of the construction workers were facing problems to feed their families. They questioned what government was doing for the last four months. They said that sand scarcity was also impacting other sectors and urged the Ministers take steps to solve the sand problem.
The Ministers told the workers that the government would take necessary steps to solve the sand problem and returned. Earlier, speaking to the media, Botcha Satyanarayana said so far development works worth Rs 9,000 crore were launched in the State capital Amaravati. Of these, works worth Rs 5,400 crore had been completed.
He alleged that the TDP government had called tenders to execute works worth Rs 40,000 crore and opened the gates for corruption. He further said that after opening the Grama Sachivalayams in the New Year, the government will conduct municipal elections in the State.
Earlier, he conducted a review meeting at the GMC office along with Minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana and reviewed the progress of the development works. He directed the officials to speed up Underground Drainage (UD) works in Guntur city and instructed them to send proposals for stormwater project and for development of B R Stadium in the city. He directed them to construct approach road at Ponnur Road.
Mopidevi Venkataramana criticised the previous TDP government for ignoring the development of Guntur city. District Collector I Samuel Anand Kumar, MLA Mustafa and GMC Commissioner Challa Anuradha were present.
