Amaravati: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday announced in the Assembly that farmers and others affected due to Cyclone Nivar would be compensated by December 31.

Jagan Mohan Reddy was explaining the measures of his government in the Assembly on the first day of the Winter Session to mitigate the problems of the farmers in particular and others affected by the cyclone.

"We had good rains this season. All reservoirs in the state are full and the groundwater levels have also risen. Farmers are hit now and we are putting our best foot forward to mitigate their crisis of farm loss. We have been offering input subsidies to farmers in no time. When kharif damage occurred we distributed Rs 126 crore input subsidy while in October when farmers again suffered a blow due to floods and excess rains, we issued Rs 132 crore compensation."

"For Nivar damages too, the Government announced Rs 500 per person which amounts to Rs 2,000 to a family. This time too, we have asked the officials to correctly estimate the damages by December 15 so that the compensation could be paid by December 31. Orders have been issued to procure even coloured and sprouted grain. From the kharif season of 2020, the Government has taken over the insurance burden for crops and Rs 1,030 crore has been paid so far. Moreover, the farmers will get 80 per cent subsidy on seed now. To the kin of the dead, Rs 5 lakh ex gratia has been declared. All roads damaged would be repaired on a war-footing,", the CM said.
