One can easily say that those migrant workers are the ones who are most affected with the country-wide lockdown imposed due to coronavirus pandemic. The difficulties and hardships faced by them have become a huge concern as most of them are starving to death due to lack of food, while some have lost their lives walking miles to reach homes. Meanwhile, in a shocking incident, two brutal accidents happened in Andhra Pradesh where one person died and several injured on Sunday.
Going into details, a bus travelling to Kolkata with migrant labourers from Chennai on Sunday morning has met with an accident at Gannavaram in Krishna district by colliding with a stationary lorry at Gannavaram Veterinary College where one person died on the spot and several injured. The Krishna district collector said that the injured had been shifted to Gannavaram Government Hospital for treatment.
In another accident occurred in Guntur district, a tempo vehicle carrying migrant labourers at Yadlapadu zone Boyapalem turtled. Seven labourers were injured in the accident. Officials found that they were heading to Bihar from Chennai. The injured have been shifted to Chilakaluripeta Government Hospital for treatment. As soon as they were informed of the accident, they arrived at the scene and took relief measures.
On the other hand, the government of Andhra Pradesh headed by chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has ordered the officials to evacuate the migrant workers to their respective state borders for free of charges. As the lockdown is due to end today, it remains to be seen what type of exemptions would government provide.
