Ongole: Though the Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation has resumed its services after nearly two months, the response from the public is disappointing, claimed the Prakasam district officials.

The RTC Prakasam Region officials have scheduled 152 inter-district and intra-district services including 27 services from Ongole depot, 19 from Addanki, 27 from Chirala, 18 from Giddalur, 8 from Kandukur, 24 from Kanigiri, 18 from Markapur, and 11 from Podili depots to run from Thursday. Though the depots witnessed heavy to the moderate footfall of passengers in the morning, the demand for services is decreased from the afternoon. Meanwhile, in the meeting held in the afternoon, the district administration ordered the RTC to not allow buses in and out from the Ongole depot as the town is in the containment zone.

The regional manager of the APSRTC Prakasam region, G Vijaya Geetha said Tha Hans India that the response from the public is too low and they are planning to reduce the services from 152 to 100 in the district. She said that they are stopping the services to and from Ongole depot from Friday as per the orders of the district collector. She said that the inter-district and intradistrict services from the remaining peripheral depots will continue to operate. She also clarified that the services from other depots that go through Ongole depot, will not enter the town but continue their journey.
